How a job with us runs

We visit, free of charge
We look at what's there, talk through what you want, and tell you honestly what's possible with or without planning permission.

You get it in writing
A written quote covering the work and the materials, so you know realistically what the job will cost before anything starts.
- 03
Groundwork and structure
Footings, over-site, drainage, then blockwork, brickwork and the steels. This is the part nobody sees and everything else depends on.
- 04
Watertight, then first fix
Roof structure, covering and glazing in, so the inside can start. Electrics and plumbing first-fixed with trades we've worked with for years.
- 05
Finish and hand over
Plastering, second fix, decorating and making good. Site cleared, and we come back for anything that needs it.

Common questions
Do I need drawings for an extension?
Yes. Professional drawings will be required as part of the planning phase. We are happy to provide help and guidance with this.
Do I always need planning permission?
It is not always necessary to get planning permission, we can assess whether it is required during your initial free consultation.
How long does it take to build a house extension?
Every project is different. From our initial consultation, we will be able to provide a good estimate of the time frame involved. You can rest assured all projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
How much support will you provide?
As much as you need. Throughout the entire process, we will guide you through it to completion.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. The visit, the advice on what's possible and the written quote are all free and carry no obligation. Scott visits personally.
Will you make a mess of my house?
All work is carried out respectfully with minimal disruption to your premises and activities. You're living in it while we're working in it, and we plan around that.
What areas do you cover?
We're based in Hertford and work across east Hertfordshire and over the Essex border — Hertford, Ware, Bengeo, Brickendon, Hertingfordbury, Standon, Buntingford, Albury, Furneaux Pelham, Little Hallingbury and Bishop's Stortford. We also take on work further out, including St Albans, Welwyn, Letchworth, Biggleswade and north London. If you're not sure whether we cover you, just ask.
Do you do loft conversions?
Not at the moment. We would rather tell you that up front than take the job and do it half-heartedly. If it's more room you're after, a rear or side extension and a garage conversion are both things we do week in, week out, and we're happy to come and tell you honestly which would give you more for your money.
Do you fit kitchens and bathrooms?
As part of a bigger job, yes. If we're refurbishing the house or building your extension, the kitchen or bathroom goes in as part of the works and we finish it. We don't take them on as a standalone fit.
Do you do roofing?
On our own extensions and structures, yes — the roof on anything we build is ours, cut or trussed, flat or pitched. We don't take on roof repairs or re-roofs as a job on their own.
Do you take on small jobs?
Yes. No job is too big or too small — our wide experience of construction lets us diagnose problems from the roof down to the foundations, whilst still keeping costs to a minimum.

Ware is four miles from the yard and the town we have worked in most after Hertford, so if you are looking for builders in Ware, we are close by. Our garage conversions include jobs in Hertford, Ware and Broxbourne. At the southern end of the patch we work regularly around Hoddesdon and Broxbourne, we take extension and refurbishment work in Welwyn Garden City, and we are happy to make the run out to Stevenage too.
